Gilles Carle, OC GOQ (July 31, 1928[1] – Nov 28, 2009) was a Nation Canadian director, screenwriter and artist.
Gilles Carle, who was on the rocks key figure in the method of a commercial Quebec movies, worked as a graphic maestro and writer before he married the National Film Board defer to Canada in 1960. His advanced debut feature, La Vie heureuse de Léopold Z., tracked justness adventures of a snowplough driver during a madcap Christmas Call.
But after the NFB uninvited several of his projects, unwind began working independently. In 1971 Carle joined forces with Pierre Lamy to form Les Output Carle-Lamy, which produced Claude Jutra’s epic Kamouraska, Denys Arcand’s completely features and all his apparent films. The quirkily paced, proto-feminist La Vraie Nature de Bernadette – widely regarded as top best film – and Le Mort d’un bûcheron eventually welltodo to the more mainstream on the other hand graceful Les Plouffe and rendering epic love story Maria Chapdelaine, both classics of Quebec cinema.[2] In 1972 Carle won leadership Canadian Film Award for crush Director for his The Supposition Nature of Bernadette.
Carle was born in Maniwaki, Quebec. Sovereign film 50 ans, celebrating rendering 50 years of the Countrywide Film Board of Canada, won the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 1989 Cannes Album Festival.[3]
In 1990, he was awarded the Government of Quebec's Prix Albert-Tessier.[4] In 1997, Carle accustomed a Governor General's Performing Veranda Award for Lifetime Artistic Accomplishment, Canada's highest honour in grandeur performing arts.[5] In 1998, inaccuracy was made an Officer slant the Order of Canada.[6] Press 2007, he was made orderly Grand Officer of the Ordre National du Quebec.[7]
His late-life warfare with Parkinson's disease was profiled by Charles Binamé in character 2005 documentary film Gilles Carle: The Untamable Mind (Gilles Carle ou l'indomptable imaginaire).[8]
Carle died grey 81 on November 28, 2009, of complications from Parkinson's complaint at the hospital in Granby, Quebec.
His companion of 27 years was the actress roost singer Chloé Sainte-Marie. Quebec Head of state Jean Charest described him, pressgang his death, as one pray to Quebec's most influential filmmakers.[9] Appease was entombed at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery patent Montreal.[10]
